Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,
As a follow-up to my
recent message calling on all the congregations in the
Diocese of Southern Ohio to stand firm in opposition to the institutional racism that continues to infect our society at every level, I am pleased to announce the appointment of a new
Becoming Beloved Community Leadership Team. Its members are:
Larry James & the Rev. Meribah Mansfield, Co-conveners
The Rev. Rick Incorvati
Miriam McKenney
MaryBeth Ingram
Ariel Miller
Debby Stokes-Wayne
Amy Howton, liaison
Additionally, I am pleased to announce that the contract with our Becoming Beloved Community Coordinator, Amy Howton, has been extended to full-time status for 2020. This position is funded mainly by several grants, and partially by diocesan funds.
Becoming Beloved Community invites us to grow together as people who love God and love the image of God that we find in our neighbors, in ourselves, and in creation.
We have much work to do to build beloved community, especially in this painful season of glaring injustice, uncertainty, grief and fear.
Let us remember our Baptismal vows and embody our faith through our love in action. Now is the time. I hope you will find ways to work to end racism and injustice and will call upon the members of the
Leadership Team to assist you in your efforts around spiritual formation, racial healing, justice and creation care. I encourage you to use the resources available on the
Becoming Beloved Community website, and to subscribe to the
Becoming Beloved Community e-newsletter
here. Together, we will work to overcome the plague of racial inequity and anti-black violence and Become
Beloved Community.
