La Iglesia del Espirítu Santo -Forest Park received a $500 award to support a community dinner hosted in collaboration with The Cincinnati Table on May 23rd. The purpose of the event was to bring together the three immigrant groups that use that church building; a group of Latinos, a group from Nepal, and another from Ghana. Three chefs (one from each community) prepared the food, and all three groups as well as some guests ate together and shared in fellowship.
In the grant proposal, Rev. Maggie Foote wrote, “In our community, language can be a barrier that keeps immigrant groups apart, and often isolated. This event is designed to provide an opportunity for these three groups to get to know one another, to share part of their own unique culture, and to encounter others who share some of their same joys and struggles as immigrants living in the United States. This event will be multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, joyful, and celebrating the belovedness of each individual present; just the way I imagine the Beloved Community to be.”
